Ernst Rüesch

Ernst Rüesch (born June 12, 1928 in St. Gallen ; † May 21, 2015 there ; entitled to live in Gaiserwald ) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ) from the canton of St. Gallen .

Rüesch was a trained secondary school teacher and from 1972 to 1988 he headed the education department as a member of the St. Gallen cantonal government . At the national level, he chaired the conference of cantonal directors of education . In 1989 he received an honorary doctorate in political science from the University of St. Gallen for his formative role in the educational policy of the canton and Switzerland .

From 1987 to 1995 Rüesch was a member of the Council of States , where, among other things, he chaired the Finance Commission and stood out as a representative of the interests of Eastern Switzerland and the economy.

On a part-time basis, Rüesch was, among other things, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Historical Lexicon of Switzerland and, as a brigadier of the Swiss Army, commander of Border Brigade 8 .
