In 2017, the Kunstmuseum Thun presented the exhibition Telling Pictures : Several writers were each commissioned to write a story for a series of pictures of works from the art collection of their own choosing. Ernst Ramseier appeared as a draftsman, painter and graphic artist. He is one of the representatives of late Swiss Expressionism . On his woodcuts, for example, people can be found who are related to a landscape or a house. The faces are always distinctive and expressive. Sometimes the woodcuts just show seemingly succinct everyday objects such as ties on a coat hanger.

From 1968 Ernst Ramseier became known through numerous public and private commissions. Mosaics, glass and church windows, entrance and stairwell designs, plaza designs, room installations or reliefs are evidence of its versatility. Book illustrations are also part of his repertoire.
