Ernst Wölfflin (born July 22, 1873 in Winterthur , † January 14, 1960 in Basel ) was a Swiss ophthalmologist .

Life

The Reformed baptized Ernst Wölfflin, son of the classical philologist Eduard Wölfflin and his wife Bertha nee Troll, younger brother of the art historian Heinrich Wölfflin , turned to the study of medicine at the universities of Basel , Lausanne and Munich after acquiring the federal Matura , in 1899 his doctorate as Dr. med. in Basel.

Ernst Wölfflin held following medical assistant positions at the University Eye Hospital in Erlangen and Munich and at the Department of Ophthalmology, Duke Carl Theodor in Munich district Maxvorstadt . 1904 habilitated himself as a lecturer for the subject of ophthalmology at the University of Basel, in 1920 he was appointed Associate Professor transported. Wölfflin, who was awarded an honorary citizen of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, set his research focus on the areas of color and light sense disorders.
