Ernst Dittrich Wenig (born December 5, 1944 in Dessau ) is a German writer who published in the GDR .

Life

Ernst Wenig was born in Dessau in 1944. His father was an engineer who died in World War II in 1944 , his mother a commercial clerk . His schooling lasted from 1951 to his Abitur at an EOS in 1963. In between there were five years that he spent in Regensburg with his mother until he and her moved to the GDR in 1960 - again to Dessau. At a writers' bazaar he came into contact with a circle of writing workers . He felt reminded of his good essay grades and intended to join such a circle, so his first attempts at writing date back to 1963. He became a member of the circle of writing workers of the VEB Junkalor " W. Majakowski " Dessau, initially under the direction of its founder Werner Steinberg , then under his successor Manfred Jendryschik . After several revisions, he finally gave up his novel Waiting for a Conversation as a failure.

After graduating from high school, he worked from 1963 to 1964 as a retailer in the Dessau bookstore, then as a coal worker in the fermentation chemistry boiler house. From 1965 to 1966 he served in the National People's Army . He then worked as a production worker at the Institute for Cement (IfZ). From 1967 to 1971 he studied economics in Halle . As a graduate in economics , he was from 1971 to 1974 in Dessau in a configuring mode of the construction industry busy. There he was entrusted with the tasks of organization, planning and IT . At the end of 1975 he decided to work as a freelance writer.

This was followed by publications in magazines and anthologies . He had also written theater reviews for the Halle SED district newspaper Freiheit , as he was interested in the stage arts , but did not study theater studies . The Mitteldeutsche Verlag and the Institute for Literature "Johannes R. Becher" Leipzig supported him with sponsorship awards. In 1975 his novel The Relationship was published by Mitteldeutscher Verlag and achieved a total of six editions.

From 1977 to 1978 he took a special course for scriptwriters at the Babelsberg Film School . He then switched to film scenarios , some of which were realized, but most of which were not accepted. The movie The Bicycle, with Heidemarie Schneider and Roman Kaminski in the leading roles, was made based on his film scenario created for DEFA and was a success in the GDR in 1981. After that, Wenig set about processing the material for a book edition of this story. The novel was published in 1982 under the title Breaking Off Relationships .

In 1984, Wenig brought together 17 texts written between 1968 and 1983 under the title Sometimes the Men, Always the Women . The volume shows a period of action that spans from the 17th century to the presence of poetry. "Three social orders [...] form the social framework of conflict-ridden human stories".

From 1982 to 1986 he was a member of the Writers 'Association of the GDR , from March 1983 a member of the Halle District Board of the Writers' Association.

reception

Der Morgen wrote about Sometimes the men, always the women : “Ernst Wenig's stories are always about human fates, things that have been experienced, thought, and dreamed of. The author writes about men and women of our day who grapple with truths and the changeable [...]. Ernst Wenig [...] sometimes uses a language that is not easily accessible, but has its own charm. "The New Germany summed up:" A tightly written, sometimes tense prose with concise, powerful images and interesting everyday discoveries. "
