Elifius Paffrath (* 1942 ; † August 2016 ) was a German theater scholar , playwright and radio play author in the GDR .

Life

Elifius Paffrath, born in 1942, studied theater studies from 1964 to 1968 at the "Hans Otto" theater school in Leipzig. His diploma thesis was Brecht's Dramatic Works 1926–1930 as stages on the way to an adequate reflection of the social causal nexus in drama . Afterwards he worked for the Landestheater Halle ("Theater of Peace") and finally he became senior director in Eisleben. He devoted himself increasingly to radio plays and worked in this segment as an author and above all as a dramaturge . From 1976 to 1978 he attended the Institute for Literature “Johannes R. Becher” in Leipzig . Until 1980 he was a research assistant at the Brecht Center in the GDR . He then worked as a freelance playwright and radio play author for television and radio in the GDR . On various occasions he also designed scenarios together with Peter Biele . His best-known piece is the Teufelskarl , about which Ingeborg Pietzsch wrote that it was "without a doubt the most important fairy tale since Eugen Eschner's 'Undine'".

Paffrath was a member of the Berlin Writers' Association and in 1987 took over a secretary position in the Departmental Party Organization (APO) III.

After the fall of the Wall he only appeared with two more radio plays. Later he was responsible for two episodes of the telenovela Rote Rosen .

Elifius Paffrath died in August 2016 at the age of 74.
