Georg Ernst Emil du Plat (born June 23, 1816 in Copenhagen ; † December 15, 1892 there ) was a royal Danish major general .

Life

He came from the French noble family du Plat , whose first representative in Germany was Pierre Joseph du Plat (1657–?), The progenitor of the Hanoverian line. Members of this German line again entered royal Danish and British services. Plat was one of five sons of Major General and Chamberlain Johann Heinrich Christian du Plat (1769-1852), commander of the cadet institute in Copenhagen, and Alette Marie Amalia Wilster (1777-1853). His two older brothers were the General Staff Officer Caesar du Plat (1804–1874) and Major General Claude du Plat (1809–1864).

Plat began his military career on January 1, 1826 as a cadet . On May 7, 1832 he was promoted to second lieutenant and on July 1, 1842 to prime lieutenant. On July 22, 1849, he became captain 2nd class and on May 28, 1853 captain 1st class . He was appointed major on July 8, 1861, and on October 1, 1864, lieutenant colonel and commander of the 17th battalion . In the same year he switched to the 4th Battalion as commander, which he remained until 1867. From January 17, 1867 to 1870, he was finally chief of the 17th battalion. In 1870, Plat retired with the rank of major general.

Plat had already been raised to court squire in 1840, and in 1841 to chamberlain . On September 13, 1848 he was made a knight of the Order of Dannebrog and on October 6, 1860 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Order of Dannebrog (Dannebrogordenens Hæderstegn).

Plat married on February 6, 1867 in the Copenhagen garrison church Maria Franziska Josephine Owen (* July 5, 1819, † April 27, 1895), the daughter of Joseph Owen (1798-1862).

He was buried in the Copenhagen garrison cemetery in December 1892.
