Johann Heinrich Christian du Plat (born May 18, 1769 in Aumund near Lesum , † February 29, 1852 probably in Copenhagen ) was a royal Danish major general , wing adjutant of King Frederick VI. and cartographer .

origin

He came from the French noble family du Plat , whose first representative in Germany was Pierre Joseph du Plat (1657–1709), the progenitor of the Hanoverian line. Descendants of this German line later entered royal Danish and British services. Plat was the founder of the Danish line. He was a great-grandson of Pierre Joseph du Plat and son of the dichgrave Peter Joseph du Plat (1728–1782) and Anna Dorothea Feind (1738–1811). His siblings were Peter Joseph (1761-1824), royal Hanover major general, the Elector of Hanover lieutenant Ernst Friedrich (1767-94), and the royal Danish major general Christian Claude (1770-1841) as well as Anna Dorothea Helena (1773-1845) and Bernhardine Antoinette du Plat (1774-1806). He was baptized on May 22, 1769 in St. Martini's Church in Lesum.

Life

In 1789 he went to Denmark with his younger brother Christian Friedrich Claude du Plat and received Danish citizenship on October 30, 1789 as a private corporal .

In 1800 he produced a series of military topographical maps of the island of Zealand . On the order of the then Crown Prince Friedrich VI. As Prime Lieutenant in the Crown Prince Regiment from 1804 to spring 1805 , he created the well-known map series of the Duchy of Schleswig together with three other lieutenants . He completed the work with another six maps on the Duchy of Holstein . The complete works of 14 individual maps at 1: 57,600 and an overview map at a scale of 1: 230,000 is Schleswig-Holstein without the islands Aero and Fehmarn represents the hand-drawn original is now in the Royal. Reference library on Christiansborg Palace .

In the following years he was first a teacher, then commander of the National Cadet Institute in Copenhagen and a colonel in the general staff . He was a royal Danish chamberlain .

family

He married on October 30, 1802 in Copenhagen Alette Marie Amalia von Wilster (born March 4, 1779 in Copenhagen - † July 17, 1853), the daughter of Caesar August von Wilster (1734-1812) and Charlotte Elisabeth von Schacht (1748 -1791). There were five children from this marriage:

  • Georg Ernst Emil (born June 23, 1816 - † December 15, 1892), royal Danish major general
  • Friedrich Caesar Ludwig Rudolph (* December 21, 1804 - April 1, 1874) Colonel in the General Staff
  • Peter Henrik Claude (born September 28, 1809, † April 18, 1864), Royal Danish Major General
