Ernst von der Osten-Sacken

Ernst Baron von der Osten-Sacken (born January 20, 1937 in Mitau ; † December 10, 2017 in Roetgen ) was a German university professor and mechanical engineer .

Career

After graduating from high school in Hanover , von der Osten-Sacken studied at RWTH Aachen University . In 1970 he was presented there with a dissertation on “Calculation of general spatial, multi-link articulated gears using the example of a 19-joint proximity gear for a motor vehicle” at Walther Fritz Heinrich Meyer zur Capellen as Dr.-Ing. PhD. At 36, he followed the call to a professorship in the teaching and research area " Machine Elements " at the RWTH Aachen, which he represented until his retirement.

Both professionally and privately, his particular passion was cycling . He was known as (Germany's only) "bicycle professor" beyond the borders of Aachen.
