Erwin Franz Müller

Erwin Franz Müller (born September 8, 1932 in Munich ) is a German entrepreneur and founder of the Müller drugstore chain .

Career

Müller finished his training as a hairdresser in 1947 and passed the master's examination in 1957. In 1953 he opened his first hairdressing salon in Ulm . In 1966 he set up the Ulm-Braunland branch as a hairdresser with cabinet, perfumery, cosmetics and drugstore sales. Gradually, several branches emerged in and around Ulm.

In 1968 Müller made the first headlines in the press because, contrary to the statutes of the hairdressing guild, he also opened his branches on Mondays ( Ulmer-Figaro dispute ). Thereupon Müller was expelled from the guild . However, Hugo Mann , who was building up his hypermarket chain Wertkauf at the time , became aware of him. He was looking for a hairdresser who ran a shop in his Wertkauf hypermarkets from Monday to Saturday. The first branch as a concessionaire was opened in the same year in the Wertkauf-Center Munich. It was a hair salon with drugstore and perfume departments. In 1973 the branch in Ulm-Böfingen was converted into the first “pure” drugstore Müller.

In 1995 Müller bought the café Gerbeaud on Vörösmarty tér in Budapest .

In 2017 it became known that Müller invested around 50 million euros in Cum Ex deals with which the German state lost billions through the reimbursement of unpaid taxes.

Private

Müller's son Reinhard Müller (* 1959) studied business administration and sat in on a US trading company. He was the second managing director for a few years, but was dismissed by his father in July 2006 due to open differences. Erwin Müller married for the second time on June 6, 2006. He is considered a workaholic who likes to take care of details himself.

His hobbies include playing golf on the Canyamel golf course on Cala Rajada in the east of the Balearic island of Mallorca , where he also runs a finca and an ostrich farm. Another hobby is gliding : together with a few friends, he had the largest glider ETA built with a wingspan of 30.90 meters.
