Erwin Hahn (psychologist)

Erwin Hahn (born July 9, 1930 - August 9, 2009 ) was a German sports psychologist . Hahn is considered one of the pioneers in German sports psychology.

Life

Hahn was an active player in handball and fencing , completed a teaching degree for elementary and secondary schools, after which he worked in school in Worms and Koblenz . He began a second degree in psychology , which he completed in 1967 at the University of Bonn as a certified psychologist. From 1968 Hahn worked at the Educational Science University in Koblenz as a scientific assistant, in 1974 he took over the positions of Scientific Director and Advisor for Sport Psychology at the Federal Institute for Sport Science . He held these offices until 1995. Hahn was also a lecturer at the trainer academy in Cologne until 1995 .

In 1969 Hahn took part in the founding meeting of the Working Group for Sport Psychology in Germany (ASP), when the interest group was entered in the register of associations two years later, he was one of seven founding members. From 1985 to 1997 he was ASP Managing Director and until 1999 Vice Chairman. Hahn was a member of the board of the European Association for Sport Psychology FEPSAC from 1972, from 1975 to 1995 he was FEPSAC treasurer and from 1995 to 1999 Vice President.

Hahn's research interests focused in particular on the areas of psychological counseling in sport, stress, psychoregulation, aggression and violence as well as youth sport and the concept of talent. He was part of the editorial team of the magazine “ Leistungssport ” and was the editor or co-editor of several specialist books on the subject of sports psychology, including “Psychological training in competitive sports: a manual for coaches and athletes”, “Children between lack of exercise and performance training”, “Problems of sports psychology” and “ Psychology of the trainer ”. There were also numerous articles in sports psychology books and magazines.
