Erwin Henkel

Erwin Henkel (born June 11, 1936 in Witzenhausen ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Henkel completed an apprenticeship as a banker . After he made up his Abitur in Göttingen on the second educational path , he studied law and political science in Göttingen from 1959 to 1960 , and then economics and social science in Frankfurt am Main . In 1962, Henkel successfully completed his studies as a qualified commercial teacher.

From 1963 to 1969 he was a consultant for the Hessian Ministry of Labor, Health and Welfare. In 1969 he was appointed to the senior government council. In the same year Henkel became mayor of the city of Dörnigheim , an office which he was to be the last to hold. At the beginning of the 1970s a possible incorporation of Dörnigheim in Frankfurt became apparent. In order to avoid this fate, various scenarios were devised, including Henkel and his Hanau counterpart, Hans Martin , suggesting that Dörnigheim be incorporated into Hanau. In the end, it was agreed that Dörnigheim would merge with the towns of Bischofsheim , Hochstadt and Wachenbuchen to form the city of Maintal . Dörnigheim went up in 1974 in the course of the Hessian regional reform in Maintal and Henkel became the first mayor of this new city. In 1983 he surprisingly changed to the post of managing director of the Hessian Association of Towns and Municipalities . His party colleague Walter Unger replaced him as mayor. Henkel himself remained managing director of the Hessian Association of Towns and Municipalities until his retirement in 1999.

On March 2, 2000 he was made an honorary member of the Hessian Academy of Research and Planning in Rural Areas. Henkel has lived in Dörnigheim since 1969, is married and has children.
