Erwin Hofer (born June 11, 1912 in Winterthur ; † October 31, 1995 in Schaffhausen , reformed , resident in Bleienbach ) was a Swiss politician (SP) .

biography

Erwin Hofer was born on June 11, 1912 in Winterthur as the son of the lathe operator Alfred Hofer and Lina née Fehlmann. After attending the teachers' seminar in Schaffhausen, Erwin Hofer completed training as a secondary teacher at the University of Bern . As a result, he initially worked as a secondary teacher in Belp , from 1938 to 1943 in Schleitheim and finally from 1944 to 1961 as a teacher at the girls' secondary school in Schaffhausen. Most recently, after leaving politics, he was employed again as a teacher.

Erwin Hofer was married to Alice, born Hermann. He died on October 31, 1995 at the age of 83 in Schaffhausen.

Political career

Hofer began his political career with the young liberals . In 1944 he joined the Social Democratic Party as one of the first teachers in Schaffhausen. In the same year he was elected to the Schaffhausen Cantonal Council . In 1960, he surprisingly ousted his party colleague Georg Leu from the government council , in which he then headed the police and medical directorate.

During Hofer's tenure, the canton police were modernized . The transport and health systems developed rapidly. In 1970 a new health law was passed. Erwin Hofer took full responsibility for the cost overrun in the construction of the canton hospital and at the end of 1973 declared his departure from politics.
