Erwin Lemmens (born May 12, 1976 in Brussels ) is a former Belgian soccer goalkeeper and has been the goalkeeping coach of the Belgian national soccer team since the beginning of 2013.

Career

Club career

Lemmens began his career as a soccer player in 1984 in the offspring of Sint-Job FC , where he also played briefly in men's soccer before he was hired by KSK Beveren in 1995 , where he was the goalkeeper from 1997 to 1999. He then signed a contract with the Spanish club Racing Santander , where he joined the league rivals Espanyol Barcelona after four seasons and 82 games in the Primera División for the Cantabrians and was a regular goalkeeper there in the 2003/04 season.

The form of Idriss Kaméni 2004/05 meant Lemmens to fulfill his duty on the bench with only one standing at Beech game in the Copa del Rey . Therefore, he was satisfied to be able to bring about a change with the signing of the contract at Olympiacos Piraeus in the summer of 2005 , even if he had to fight with the young Cleopas Giannou for the position of the substitute goalkeeper behind the number 1 Antonios Nikopolidis .

Lemmens failed to play a single game for his club Olympiakos in 2005/06 and rumors spread that he would be sold. Nevertheless, he initially remained third goalkeeper behind Antonios Nikopolidis and Tomislav Butina . In January 2007 he then moved to the Dutch club RKC Waalwijk for which he played until the end of the season and then went to the Belgian club KFC Verbroedering Dender EH. After being out of a club in the 2008/2009 season, he left with the club from summer 2009 to summer 2010 Second division club KSK Beveren ended his career and completed 32 league games.

National team career

Lemmens played twice for the Belgian national soccer team in 2004 : on March 13 in the game against Germany and on May 25 against the Netherlands . In total, he was called up five times for the Belgian national football team, two of them in 1999 and three times in 2004.

Coaching career

At the beginning of 2013, Lemmens was confirmed as the new goalkeeping coach of the Belgian national football team, having previously acted as goalkeeping coach of the KSC Lokeren professional team from 2010 to 2011 . He was represented with the team at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
