Erwin Lindner

Erwin Lindner (born April 7, 1888 in Böglins near Ottobeuren, † November 30, 1988 in Stuttgart ) was a German entomologist .

Life

Erwin Lindner, who was born on April 7, 1888 in Böglins as the son of the land manager Otto Lindner, was employed in 1913 after graduating from the University of Munich as an assistant at what was then the Württemberg Natural History Collection, now the State Museum of Natural History in Stuttgart . Lindner, entrusted with the management of the entomological department, was appointed curator in 1920 and chief curator in 1925. In 1953 he was retired. Erwin Lindner died on November 30, 1988 in Stuttgart.

Lindner, a passionate collector, took part in several expeditions or carried them out independently. He traveled to Dalmatia , the Gran Chaco , Anatolia , Liguria , East Africa , Italy , Spain and regularly the Alpine regions .

He was a member of the Association for Patriotic Natural History in Württemberg , which he chaired from 1957 to 1960. In 1963 he was made an honorary member . In 1956 Erwin Lindner was honored by the German Entomological Society in recognition of his services in the field of dipterology with the award of the Fabricius Medal .

Erwin Lindner, who was considered one of the leading dipterologists in the first half of the 20th century, stood out in particular as the editor of the multi-volume standard work The Flies of the Palaearctic Region .

Benno Herting's résumé was recognized in the annual journals of the Society for Natural History in Württemberg, 143rd year, 1988.

Honors

Although Lindner as an entomologist mainly described the two-winged bird, he is also immortalized with a flowering plant that he discovered in Bolivia. Alwin Berger described the new species as Aristolochia lindneri A. Berger.
