Erwin Rudnick

Erwin Rudnick (born May 3, 1920 in Groß Peterkau ; † October 6, 1988 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) was a German police officer. For many years he was chief of the district authority of the German People's Police (BDVP) in Karl-Marx-Stadt , most recently in the rank of lieutenant general .

Life

The son of a farm laborer also worked as a farm laborer after attending primary school. He was drafted into the Wehrmacht for military service and was taken prisoner by the Soviets .

After his release into the Soviet zone of occupation , he became a member of the DVP in 1947 and began a career as an officer. He became a member of the SED and studied at a Soviet military academy. From 1960 to 1965 he was the VP chief of the BDVP Schwerin (successor to Willi Knöpke ). He was then from 1965 to 1986 as the successor to Paul Schwager head of the BDVP Karl-Marx-Stadt. After 20 years in this position, he was passed on January 13, 1986 by the Minister of the Interior of the GDR Friedrich Dickel for reasons of age and health and replaced by Colonel VP Peter Müller . At the same time he was a member of the district assembly and from 1967 to February 1986 a member of the SED district leadership in Karl-Marx-Stadt. In 1969 he was appointed major general by Walter Ulbricht and in 1985 he was promoted to lieutenant general by Erich Honecker .

Rudnick died at the age of 68.
