Erythrodiplax transversa is a medium-sized species of dragonfly from the subfamily Sympetrinae . It is the only known representative of the Transversa group and is similar to the dark species of the Connata group . The specific epithet transversa indicates that the species has an additional Cubito anal vein inthe hind wingand a vein in the wing triangle. The species isnativeto Venezuela .

Construction of the Imago
Common to both sexes is the black base color and, apart from a tiny yellowish spot at the base, the transparent wings . The pterostigma is brownish and around 2.7 millimeters long. The two wing veins mentioned in the introduction can also quickly distinguish the species from similar species. The hind wings reach 21.5 to 22.0 millimeters, the abdomen is around 19 millimeters long. The male has a black face with a slightly bluish, metallic touch. In the case of the females, however, the face is brownish black and the legs and the dorsum of the abdomen are also lighter than in the case of the male and tend to be more brownish.
Construction of the larva
The hairy larva does not have any dark markings and is very pale. It reaches a length of around 14 millimeters and a width of 4.8 millimeters. The posterior femur is 4.8 millimeters and the posterior tibia is 4.9 millimeters long. The labium extends back over the second pair of legs and is covered with bristles. In addition, there are six bristles on the palps and twelve on the prementum . The wing sheaths extend to the fifth segment of the abdomen. There are lateral mandrels on segments eight and nine. The species does not have dorsal spines.
