Esaias Meyer

Esaias Johannes Meyer (* 1684 in Neidenstein ; † February 25, 1771 in Heilbronn ) was Mayor of Heilbronn from 1741 to 1765 .

Life

Meyer was the son of the Venningen bailiff on Neidenstein and Steinsberg , Johann Peter Meyer, and the Heilbronn councilor's daughter Marie Elisabeth née Glandorf. Meyer's mother probably died in 1688 during the War of the Palatinate Succession , after which the father fled to Heilbronn , where he also died in 1689. Esaias therefore grew up with his grandmother in Heilbronn and after her death in 1691 came to a sister of his mother, the pastor's widow Maria Sabina Sommerhard († 1710), who had a second marriage with the Heilbronn councilor Johann Ludwig Kübel, father of the later mayor of the same name Johann Ludwig Kübel (1684–1753), received. Esaias enrolled on May 2, 1704 at the University of Jena in law . Just as his exact date of birth is unknown, there is also no evidence of what exactly he did in the period after his studies. Presumably he had already resided in Heilbronn as a legal consultant for a long time when he was appointed to the Heilbronn city court on January 1, 1720 and shortly thereafter received citizenship . In 1721 he became a lawyer in the city court. From 1731 he belonged to the small, inner council ( "von den burgern" ), was tax master in 1733 and "secretary" in 1739 as well as Vogt in the imperial town of Neckargartach . In December 1740 he became the third mayor of Heilbronn and, after the death of higher-ranking mayors, took the position of first mayor until 1757/58. On June 25, 1765 he resigned from office for reasons of age.

From 1728 he was married to Anna Maria Dorothea Schmid (1705–1790), daughter of the Künzelsau pastor Johann Engelhard Schmid. The marriage had a son, Christoph August Meyer (1739–1817), who was also a councilor and a high school town in 1781 , but resigned from office in 1794 and retired into private life.
