Esbjörn "Esa" Hofverberg (born October 7, 1970 in Seoul ) is a German-Swedish ice hockey player . He is under contract with the upper division Icefighters Leipzig .
Career
Hofverberg was born in the South Korean capital Seoul. As a baby he was given to a children's home . According to his own statement, he does not know his birth parents. At the age of one he was adopted by the Swedish Hofverberg family and grew up in the small town of Kelemnsnäs . His ice hockey career began with Clemensnäs HC . He later played for Skellefteå AIK in the second highest Swedish league.
In 1996 Hofverberg moved to the German second division Grefrather EV , with whom he qualified two years later for the re-introduced 2. Bundesliga . After the financial end of Grefrather EV Hofverberg moved for a year to the upper division Herford EC , where he was voted the best defender in the league. The Herford EC had to withdraw at the end of the season, whereupon Hofverberg moved to the second division ETC Crimmitschau .
With Crimmitschau, Hofverberg was relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga in 2006. After the direct rise again, he left Crimmitschau because he could not agree on a new contract with the club. Hofverberg then went to the Blues Lions Leipzig . In 2008 he took part in the ESBG Allstar Game . After a knee injury, he initially ended his career. A year later he made his comeback with the Blue Devils Weiden , before joining the Icefighters Leipzig in 2014 via the stations ERV Chemnitz 07 , ETC Crimmitschau and Wild Boys Chemnitz .
Private
Esbjörn Hofverberg is married to a German woman and has a son and a daughter. Both children also play ice hockey. He works as a golf instructor and horse breeder .
