Eschen is a district of the town of Plettenberg in the Märkisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The settlement was founded in 1953 due to the great housing shortage after the Second World War and the steadily growing population in Plettenberg. It is located in the northern part of the city at the foot of the Eschen mountain south of the Lenne and the Ruhr-Sieg route .

In 1957 the city established the "Eschenschule" in Eschen as a Protestant elementary school . At the end of the 1960s this became a primary school. In 2020, 128 students attended the municipal community primary school.

In 2011 the district had 2633 inhabitants.

Local public transport is operated by Märkische Verkehrsgesellschaft with lines 71, 73 and 275. The nearest train station is around 1.5 km away in the Eiringhausen district . Eschen is connected to national road traffic via the federal highway 236 .
