The Espaces d'Abraxas are an ensemble of buildings in the Mont-d'Est quarter of the Paris suburb of Noisy-le-Grand in the Seine-Saint-Denis department in the Île-de-France region in France , which was built between 1978 and 1983. It was planned by the Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill , who also designed the Antigone district in Montpellier .

Bofill did not want to create anonymous apartment blocks, but rather a "Versailles for the people" in which different classes can meet. This explains the special architecture of the postmodern building ensemble, which is oriented towards an inner courtyard. There are three buildings: le Théâtre , l'Arc (the archway) and le Palacio , with l'Arc in the center and completely enclosed in the west by le Théâtre and in the east by le Palacio . The tallest of the three buildings ( le Palacio ) measures 64 meters and has 18 floors. Some of the apartments have a view of the Eiffel Tower. There are a total of around 600 apartments in the building ensemble. In the Palacio alone there are 440 apartments, two thirds of which are social housing.

However, the cost of maintaining the building was higher than originally anticipated and the housing company had to file for bankruptcy. In an interview with Le monde in 2014, Bofill considers his work to be a success in that he has promoted the use of prefabricated elements in France. At the same time, he realizes that his vision of changing the city has failed because the sections of the population have not mixed as hoped. The lack of shops and the fact that the ensemble is self-contained have caused problems for many. Bofill's model has not been adopted for the construction of other cities. They continued to build only apartment blocks.

The complex has been used as a backdrop in several films: Death the Referee (1983), Brazil (1985) and The Hunger Games - Mockingjay Part 2 .

The building complex can also be seen in numerous music clips: In Ouragan by Stéphanie von Monaco (1986), Fais le L des Rappers Leck (2012), in Le Stress des Rappers JP Manova, in Break the Silence by Carbon Airways (2015), in Fallait pas by Marwa Loud (2017), in Different leagues by the australo-Ghanaian rapper Manu Crooks (2018) and in Tu m'appelles by Adel Tawil feat. Peachy (2019), which also shows the Arcades du Lac from Montigny-le-Bretonneux , which were also designed by Ricardo Bofill .
