The normal route to the Essener Eck begins at the Clarahütte in the Umbaltal, after which you follow the marked path to the north in the valley floor until you have the opportunity to climb in the area of some of the streams that flow into the east. Here you climb up the steep zone without a path until you reach flatter terrain. Then turn north and cross the area to the summit. From the summit there is the ridge crossing to the southern Malhamspitze, where you follow the ridge over the Niederen and Hohen Aderscheitl first over Schrofen and Schutt. Finally, you reach the southern Malhamspitze ( I ) with easy climbing on the west ridge .
