The Malhamspitzen (originally called Malchamspitze by Carl Sonklar ) are a mighty, four-peaked mountain range in the Maurerkamm , a mountain range in the Venediger group in the Hohe Tauern National Park . They are located south of the Reggentörl ( 3,047 m above sea level ) and are only separated from each other by little noticeable gaps . The literature distinguishes:
- Northern ( 3368 m above sea level ),
- Middle ( 3318 m above sea level ),
- Southern ( 3326 m above sea level ),
- Southernmost Malhamspitze ( 3226 m above sea level , location )
The Malhamhorn ( 3186 m above sea level ) also belongs to the group .
Location and surroundings
The Malham peaks are completely surrounded by glaciers . To the west of the ridge of the Malhamspitzen that runs from north to south, draining to the Isel , lies the Gubachkees ; to the east, feeding the Maurerbach , are the southern Malhamkees (also: Böses Wandkees ) and the lower-lying northern Malhamkees, which have melted significantly in recent years .
Development
The peaks were first climbed on July 12, 1873 by the Prague alpinist Victor Hecht and the mountain guide Johann Ausserhofer over the west side of the Clarahütte over the Umbal glacier . Initially, only four peaks were distinguished from Hecht.
Over the southernmost part of the Simonykees the path leads from the Essener-Rostocker Hütte over the Reggentörl to the west and on over the extensive Umbalkee , then following the Isel to the Clarahütte .
