The Essener-Rostocker Hütte (also: Essener and Rostocker Hütte ) is an Alpine Club hut of the Essen section of the German Alpine Club in Maurertal in the Venediger Group in East Tyrol .

history

The hut goes back to an initiative pursued by citizens from Prägraten am Großvenediger from 1901 . However, the locals did not have the means for a private accommodation house they were considering, so they offered the Alpine Association building space as well as building material that had already been purchased. The Rostock Section acquired the right of first refusal , and thanks to the help of Johann Stüdl , the preparatory work took its course. On the basis of the building plan drawn up by S. Volz in Prague , construction work began in spring 1911, and the winter-proof shell was completed on September 29, 1911. After the interior work (with the objectives, the upcoming guest really Mecklenburg coziness to offer) the house was opened on August 8, 1912 inaugurated .

The house, built by the Essen section in the Upper Seebertal ( Gurgler Kamm ) in South Tyrol and inaugurated on August 18, 1903, fell to Italy after the First World War and, under a different name, was later destroyed by flames. The Neue Essener Hütte had existed in the farthest Virgental valley below the Umbalkee since 1929 . This structure, which is massive at 2500 m, fell victim to an avalanche in 1936. The building, which was restored at a slightly higher location in 1939, was also destroyed by an avalanche on March 27, 1958. Subsequently, the Essen Section built their hut as an oversized extension to the Rostocker Hut, which was orphaned in those years and thus became the Essen-Rostocker Hut.

Remarks

  1. ↑ In 1978 the Essen Section built the Kleine-Philipp-Reuter-Hütte at this point, which is geared towards self-sufficiency and is not accessible in winter . - See: Irsay: Hello old huts! , P. 152, online .
