The Estadio Municipal Alfonso Murube is a football stadium in the Spanish autonomous city of Ceuta , on the North African coast. It is the home ground of the AD Ceuta FC football club .

history

The stadium was opened in 1933 as Campo Municipal de Deporte , but was nicknamed "Docker" because of the military barracks near the venue. On April 17, 1943, the name was changed to Estadio Alfonso Murube in honor of a former player of the then home team Ceuta Club Sport , who fell in the course of the Spanish Civil War at Aranjuez . The stadium, which has been the home of numerous Ceuta teams throughout history , was abandoned in 1991 after the dissolution of Agrupación Deportiva Ceuta and began to deteriorate. When the AD Ceuta association was re-established in 1996, the municipality decided to renovate and restore the stadium. The grand opening of the new Estadio Alfonso Murube, which offered around 6,500 spectators, took place on October 8, 1997 with a game between the home team and FC Algeciras and ended with a 4-2 win for Ceuta.

In the Copa del Rey 2000/01 , AD Ceuta prevailed against, among others, FC Málaga and only failed in the third main round at FC Barcelona , which was a guest at the Estadio Alfonso Murube on January 3, 2001.

After the rise of Atlético Ceuta in 2012 in the Tercera División and the descent of the AD Ceuta due to high debts, Atlético tried to merge with the Asociación Deportiva. The merged club was named AD Ceuta, but with the players and staff from Atlético Ceuta. In the following year the club was officially named Agrupación Deportiva Ceuta Fútbol Club (short: AD Ceuta FC) with the logo and colors of AD Ceuta and uses the Estadio Municipal Alfonso Murube.

International matches at the Estadio Alfonso Murube

On April 16, 2002, the Spanish U-21 men played a friendly against the team from the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia , the Iberians won 2-1 and the goals of the home team were scored by José Antonio Reyes and Fernando Torres .
