Eteri Gvasava , Russian Этери Гвазава (* 1969 in Omsk , Siberia) is a Russian opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

education

During her studies at the Conservatory in Novosibirsk with Nina Lyubinovskaya, she first attracted attention with first prizes in Russian singing competitions, such as the “Young Voices” competition ( Moscow , 1992) and the Lemeschew competition ( Tver , 1994). The latter award helped her to receive a scholarship at the International Bach Academy Stuttgart , directed by Helmuth Rilling .

From 1995 to 1997 Eteri Gvazava studied singing with Maria Venuti at the Karlsruhe University of Music .

Career

In 1997 she was awarded 1st prize in the New Voices competition of the Bertelsmann Foundation . She made her stage debut in 1998 as Fiordiligi in the opera Così fan tutte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on the occasion of the opening of the Nuovo Piccolo Teatro in Milan. This was the last production by Giorgio Strehler , who suddenly died shortly before the end of the rehearsal work. The production, which was given a very special meaning by this event, was invited to numerous guest performances in Europe and Japan.

Eteri Gvazava received her first permanent engagement at the Bielefeld Theater , where she worked between 1998 and 2000 a. a. Liú in Puccini's Turandot , Tatjana in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin , Michaela in Bizet's Carmen , Elvira in Mozart's Don Giovanni and Rusalka in Dvořák 's opera of the same name.

Eteri Gvazava received widespread attention as Violetta in La traviata by Giuseppe Verdi with José Cura under the baton of Zubin Mehta . The performance of the opera was broadcast live worldwide in 2000 and produced on CD and DVD.

Since 2000 Eteri Gvazava has performed as a freelance soprano in numerous operatic roles and also in recitals by v. a. in Italy, Austria and Germany. In 2002 she made her debut as Vrenchen in Romeo and Juliet in the village of Frederick Delius in Cagliari . This production is also available on CD.

In addition to her pronounced lyrical, dark-colored voice, Eteri Gvazava is also characterized by great acting talent.
