Forget-Marge-Not is an episode of the 2007 animated series The Simpsons , which won the 2008 Emmy Award for Best Cartoon Show of the Year . The episode with the original title Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind is the ninth episode of the 19th season and thus the 409th episode of the Simpsons.

action

After what appeared to be a night of partying, Homer wakes up in the snow. When he comes home at 6 a.m., his family has disappeared. Since he can no longer remember the events of the previous evening, he looks for clues from acquaintances. He learns that Chief Wiggum has been called to the Simpsons' house for disturbance of the peace and notices there that Marge has a black eye. Homer suspects that he has hit his wife and therefore wanted to forget the memories of the evening by taking a special cocktail “Forget it Surprise” from Moe .

Homer travels into his memories through the invention of Professor Frink . He catches Marge on the sofa with Duffman and fears an affair. So he desperately wants to throw himself off a bridge and kill himself, but he changes his mind. Patty and Selma then push him down and Homer looks back at his entire life again. It becomes clear that Marge and Duff-Man had only planned a surprise party for Homer the previous evening. In order not to spoil his wife's surprise, he drank the forget-cocktail.

Fortunately, Homer had previously feared a misinterpretation of what had happened and had Lenny put up a bouncy castle on the party ship. He actually ends up on this and the party is a complete success.

Allusions

The episode title Vergiss-Marge- nicht and the plot refer to the US film Forget Mine Not! (Original title: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind ), which is also about erasing unpleasant memories. However, at the end of both the Simpsons episode and the film, the memories are restored and the lovers find each other again.

At the beginning of the episode there is an allusion to the saber-toothed rat Scrat from the movie Ice Age trying to pluck an acorn from a tree.

Homer's memories of his previous life shortly before his supposed death are portrayed like Noah Kalina in his video Everyday , for which Kalina photographed himself every day for six years. Since Kalina's video was particularly successful on YouTube , Homer's memory is also shown as a YouTube video.

The ending of the episode parodies the ending of the movie The Game with Michael Douglas .
