Eternal Solstice is a Dutch death metal band from Bodegraven , which was founded in 1989 and has been active intermittently since then.

history

The band was founded on February 27, 1989 and consisted of the singer Kees Jan Schouten, the guitarist Philip Nutgren, the bassist Ramon Soeterbroek and the drummer Edwin Roor. The latter left the line-up a little later, after which the two former Sempiternal Deathreign members Mischa Hak (drums) and Victor van Drie (electric guitar) joined the line-up. Hak was also active as a drummer for Mourning. Together with this band, Eternal Solstice recorded a split release in 1990. Schouten had meanwhile left the band, which is why Soeterbroek also took over the vocals. It was only after two years that the sound carrier was released on Midian Creation Records . During this time the band broke up.

In 1993 the group was reorganized by Nutgren and Soeterbroek with the drummer Eric Boekoe. A demo followed before members left the band again, leaving Soeterbroek as the lead singer again. In 1994 the album The Wish Is Father to the Thought was released , on which, among other things, a cover version of the Sodom song Outbreak of Evil can be heard. For the recordings, Mischa Hak came as a drummer. André van der Ree held this post permanently. In 1995 the second album Horrible Within followed . In the beginning of 1996, the former Asphyx guitarist Eric Daniels joined the cast. The third album followed in 1997 under the name Demonic Fertilizer . In the same year the band broke up.

In 2010 the band got back together. The debut album was then re-released via Dark Descent Records . Matt Calvert, managing director of Dark Descent Records, was able to convince the band a little later to record a new album. In 2015 the label released the album Remnants of Immortality . Meanwhile, Ramon Soeterbroek plays the electric guitar and takes over the vocals, Tim Roeper is the bassist, Mischa Hak has returned as the drummer and Ardy de Jong plays the electric guitar.

style

Frank Albrecht described the four songs on the split CD At the Dawn of ... in Rock Hard as "medium-paced Death Metal in the style of Frost , Death or Massacre ", without sounding like these inspirers. Claudia Pajzderski from Metal Hammer noted in her review of Horrible Within that the band plays varied and solidly produced Death Metal on it, but the market in this genre is oversaturated. There are enough bands that are better and have been around longer. Jan Jaedike from Rock Hard remarked in his review of Horrible Within that the band refrains from incorporating influences from Gothic Metal and Rock 'n' Roll into their Death Metal, but that doesn't make the band old school . On the album there are "non-stop razor- sharp riffs ", which gives it a " thrash- like feel". On the sound carrier there are equal proportions of fast and medium-fast passages. Despite a technically high level of play, the songs are never dominated by "boastful tinkering". The singing is "completely unidentified gut-gagging" and goes with the aggressive music. Sebastian Schilling wrote in a later issue in his review of Remnants of Immortality that you can listen to old-school death metal that the group was founded in the 1980s. The riffs are "thrashy". The basic structure of the songs consists of Death, Possessed , Massacre and Demolition Hammer . However, the overall effect of the songs is different, which is mainly caused by the deep growls reminiscent of Gorefest . As with Deicide , however, two voices would be permanently doubled.
