Etienne Barbara (born June 10, 1982 in Pietà ) is a Maltese football player.
Career
Malta
Etienne started his career at youth club Qormi FC before moving to Maltese Premier League club Floriana FC in July 1999 . At that time, he mostly played in more defensive positions, scoring only eight goals in 74 games. Due to his good performance with Floriana, he was appointed to the Maltese national team in 2002 .
On January 25, 2003 , he moved to league competitor FC Marsaxlokk , where he was a regular player straight away and was also very accurate there. He scored 21 goals in 43 games.
Only two years later on the same date he changed clubs and went to FC Birkirkara and later in July 2007 to the Maltese record champions Sliema Wanderers .
Germany
For the 2008/09 season he moved to Germany for regional division SC Verl , where he signed a two-year contract. He made his regional league debut on August 16, 2008 against the amateurs of Bayer 04 Leverkusen . In total, he came to 18 missions in the season.
After just one season, he went back to Malta and joined Hibernians Paola , the current master of Malta.
North America
On February 25, 2010 he moved to the Carolina RailHawks in what was then the USSF D2 Pro League . He scored two goals in his first game for the Hawks against AC St. Louis . During his time there, he scored 28 goals in 54 games. In the 2011 season he received several awards, including top scorer in the NASL and the best player in the league.
On January 25, 2012, the Vancouver Whitecaps acquired the MLS rights to Barbara von Montreal Impact . Due to injuries, he was only able to play two games in Major League Soccer and one game for the U-23 in the USL Premier Development League . He was released from the Whitecaps in late November.
On January 23, 2013, he moved to Minnesota United . After half a year he was exchanged for Mike Ambersley of the Tampa Bay Rowdies . He played the rest of the 2013 season for the Rowdies and has been without a club since then.
National team
Since his 2004 debut against Israel, he has made 30 international appearances, including three goals. He is one of the regular players in the national team despite the small number of international matches.
