Etu Ndow

Baboucarr Etu Ndow (* 1966 in Bakau ; † March 23, 2014 in Tujereng ) was one of the most famous contemporary visual artists from Gambia .

Live and act

From 1984 Ndow worked as an art teacher at a secondary school in Gunjur . In the same position he worked from 1990 at a school in Banjul .

In 1990 he opened in Bakau the Gallery African Art Collection Center , which he ran until 1994th He ran a screen printing studio until 1996 . In 1996 he went to Europe and studied art at the Art School Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Constantijn Huygens in Kampen (Netherlands) until 2000 . At the same time he participated in numerous exhibitions in Europe.

In 2001 he returned to The Gambia and taught art at the International French School in Banjul. He hosted a painting show for children on Gambian television ( GRTS ). In 2002 he founded the Tunbung Art Village and Gallery in Tujereng . From 2003 he was a lecturer in traditional art at the University of Gambia .

Together with Njogu Touray , Ndow was commissioned to create paintings for each of the 52 guest accommodations for the 2006 African Union summit.

Etu died at the age of 48 in Tujereng.
