Eugène Eudes-Deslongchamps
Eugène Eudes-Deslongchamps (born March 10, 1830 in Caen , † December 21, 1889 ibid) was a French paleontologist , geologist and zoologist .
He was the son of the paleontologist Jacques-Amand Eudes-Deslongchamps , received his doctorate in paleontology at the Sorbonne in 1864 (comparative study of Jurassic strata in England, Normandy and other parts of France) and in 1867 his successor as professor of zoology at the Faculté des Sciences in Caen. In 1883 he became a professor in the newly created chair for geology and paleontology. His collection formed the basis of that of the Museum of Natural History in Caen. In 1879 he created the marine biological laboratory in Luc-sur-Mer . After his death, his successor Alexandre Bigot , who was professor in Caen from 1889 to 1933, completed monographs on the Bajocium and Bathonium in Normandy .
He published on Jurassic fossils from Normandy (about which he wrote a monograph), on brachiopods , Teleosauridae and the geology of New Caledonia . He was responsible for the first description of the gastropod genus Euyclus (1861).
