Eugene Bothe

Eugen Carl Friedrich Bothe (born May 10, 1835 in Wildeshausen ; † June 30, 1912 in Oldenburg ) was a lawyer, Oldenburg Secret Higher Justice Council and from 1904 to 1908 President of the Oldenburg Higher Regional Court .

life and career

The Bothe family had lived in Vechta since the 15th century . Numerous lawyers and officials emerged from it.

Eugen Bothe was born on May 10, 1835 as the son of the chief bailiff Caspar Franz Theodor Bothe (1795–1883) and his wife Christine nee. von Varendorf (1805–1888) born in Wildeshausen. He attended the High School Carolinum in Osnabrück and studied in Göttingen and Heidelberg law . In 1857 he passed the tentamen and in 1859 joined the Oldenburg judicial service as an auditor . He initially worked for the public prosecutor at the Birkenfeld Higher Court in the Principality of Birkenfeld , which belongs to Oldenburg . In 1861 he passed the second state examination and became senior court secretary and assistant judge at the higher court in Birkenfeld. In 1868 he got a job as an assistant civil servant at the administrative office and district court of Stollhamm . In 1869 and 1870 Bothe worked as a judge at the Oldenburg District Court , then again briefly at the Stollhamm Office.

In 1872 he was appointed public prosecutor at the higher court in Varel and promoted to higher court advisor the following year. In 1879 he came to the Oldenburg Regional Court and was in 1887 appointed High Court Judge Member of the Higher Regional Court of Oldenburg. On February 3, 1904, Bothe was appointed President of the Higher Regional Court after he had been awarded the title of Privy Higher Justice Council in 1901. He retired on July 15, 1908. His successor in office was Eduard Niebour .

As early as 1861, Bothe, who professed his Catholic faith, became a member of the Commission for Catholic Church Affairs. In 1888 he was formally appointed a member of the Commission for the Management of State Rights with regard to the Catholic Church . Since 1889 he was also a member of the authority responsible for deciding on conflicts of jurisdiction between the administrative and judicial authorities. As a judge, who last held the highest office of judge in Oldenburg, he was in high regard and was respectfully referred to as Zeus Bothe .

family

Bothe was unmarried. One of his nephews, Friedrich Christian Karl Bothe (1862–1932), became president of the regional court in Oldenburg in 1930.
