Eduard Niebour (born November 22, 1856 in Astede near Neuchâtel , † October 22, 1926 in Oldenburg (Oldb) ) was a German lawyer and from 1908 to 1924 President of the Oldenburg Higher Regional Court .

Career

Niebour was the son of the Varel lawyer and MdR August Niebour (1821-1891). He grew up in Varel and attended the local community school. Originally, he was intended for a technical career, so he was initially supposed to study at the Eidgenössisches Polytechnikum Zürich , which at that time had an excellent reputation as a training center. In preparation, he attended the canton school Frauenfeld in the canton of Thurgau from 1871 , where Dagobert Böckel, who was distantly related to the family, worked as a teacher and headmaster at that time. When Böckel was called to the Gymnasium in Küstrin in 1873, Niebour accompanied him and passed the Abitur there in 1878. Deviating from his original plan, Niebour then studied law at the universities of Tübingen , Leipzig and Berlin from 1878 to 1881 . In 1881 he passed the first state examination for the Oldenburg judicial service and in July 1884 was employed as an official auditor in Eutin , the royal seat of the Principality of Lübeck , which belonged to Oldenburg .

Niebour passed his second state examination in law in 1885 and, after a brief activity as an official assessor in Vechta , was appointed magistrate in Delmenhorst in November 1886 . In May 1892 he was transferred to the Oldenburg Regional Court and in January 1900 to the Lübeck Regional Court , which was also responsible for the Principality of Lübeck. In May 1907 he received a position at the Oldenburg Higher Regional Court. As the successor to Eugen Bothe , he headed this court from July 15, 1908 until his retirement on April 1, 1924 as president.

family

Niebour was with Emma Julie Hermine geb. Thyarks (* 1863) married. The couple had two children, their daughter Helene Adele Hermine Niebour (* 1895) and August Heinrich Niebour (1889–1929) , who later became Senator of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck .

publication

Together with the former Minister Hermann Scheer , Niebour published a 3-volume collection of the laws in force in the Oldenburger Land for the period from 1813 to 1926 as an update of an outdated collection of laws.
