Eugen Busmann

Eugen Felix Busmann (born December 28, 1929 in Emsdetten ; † February 25, 2015 in Wuppertal ) was a German sculptor and university professor .

Live and act

From 1947, Busmann completed his apprenticeship and practical years as a stone and sculptor until 1952 at the Dombauhütte in Münster ( St. Paulus Cathedral ) . He then studied applied and free sculpture at the Werkkunstschule in Münster with Kurt Schwippert (1956–1957 as a master class student ). From 1957 Busmann worked as a lecturer for sculptural design at the Werkkunstschule Wuppertal and thus followed Schwippert to Wuppertal. The Werkkunstschule was initially merged with the Wuppertal University in 1974, which has been called the Bergische Universität Wuppertal since 2003 . Until his retirement in 1995, Busmann held a professorship at the university. In addition to teaching at the university, Busmann produced free and commissioned sculptural works, with a focus on columns and steles as well as small sculptures and plaques.

Eugen Busmann was a member of the Bergische Kunstgenossenschaft (BKG) and the West German Artists Association for over 50 years . Since 1954 he has participated in solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad.

Busmann lived in Wuppertal- Ronsdorf .

  • 1961 / 00: Participation in the memorial plaque for the victims of the Second World War in the town hall of Barmer , which was designed by Kurt Schwippert.
  • 1962 / 00: Memorial plaques in memory of the Wuppertal synagogues, which were designed by Kurt Schwippert.
  • 1966/67: Participation in the artistic cast aluminum entrance portal on the old HC building on the Haspel campus (demolished in 2011), which was designed by Guido Jendritzko (1925–2009).
  • 1967 / 00: Grave slab for the painter and sculptor Eduard Dollerschell at that time in the Catholic cemetery in Sonnborn, from 1982 in the Niederbergisches Museum in Wülfrath .
  • 1967 / 00: Commemorative plaque for those who died in the Second World War at the Sedanstrasse municipal high school (additional plaque for the CJ Mangner memorial from 1921).
  • 1971 / 00: Bronze plaque and design of the Wilhelm-Vorwerk facility on the Höhenweg in the Barmer Forest.

  • 1980/81: bronze relief of a cross landscape in the forum of the St. Anna School in Elberfeld.
  • 1988 / 00: Relief portrait of the company owner Hermann Quante († 1985) in the entrance area of ​​the development and production center of the company Quante on Uellendahler Straße.
