Eugen Fischer (also known under his pseudonym A. Helm ), (born March 3, 1899 in Berchtesgaden , † March 19, 1973 ibid) was a German geologist and historian .

Life

Fischer saw himself as the successor to Joseph Ernst von Koch-Sternfeld (1778–1866) and worked intensively on collecting sources for all possible areas of knowledge about the Berchtesgadener Land . He self-published all of his publications because he mistrusted every publisher in principle. In addition, he categorically rejected the elementary principle of any lexicon publication financing, namely that the costs of a new part were borne by the previous one. Because of the organizational difficulties that resulted from this, he could no longer see many of the results of his decades of work in print during his lifetime.

The three-part reprint edition of his Das Berchtesgadener Land through the ages was recognized in 1974 by the Süddeutsche Zeitung as the “Konversationslexikon des Berchtesgadener Land”. As a research basis for all of the literature on Berchtesgaden between 1522 and 1930, his bibliography, Die Literatur über das Berchtesgadener Land and its Alps , published in 1930, received great attention far beyond the region. The picture of life in Moritz Mayer , published together with Magdalene Ziemke, was intended to counteract the formation of legends about the Mauritia Mayer- based fictional character Judith Platter in the Richard Voss film adaptation of the novel Zwei Menschen . His monograph Hallthurm dealt with history a. a. of the Hallthurm as part of the former Berchtesgaden border fortifications from the very beginning to the present.

His examples of Berchtesgaden dialect, which he had collected over decades, never came to print and was only hectographed a few times . His manuscripts on the history of the Berchtesgadener Saline and the Steinmarterln in the Berchtesgadener Land are also unpublished to this day .

The pseudonym A. Helm , which he used for all of his works, was derived from the first name of his wife Helma.
