Eugen Lindau (born May 3, 1883 in Magdeburg , † May 10, 1960 in Hamburg ) was a German naval officer , most recently an admiral in World War II .

Life

Lindau joined the Imperial Navy as a midshipman on April 1, 1903 , completed his ship training on the cruiser frigate SMS Stein and then went to the Mürwik Naval School . He was then transferred to the liner SMS Elsass on October 1, 1905 and was promoted to lieutenant on September 28, 1906. From October 1, 1908 to July 1, 1914, he was a member of the I. Torpedo Division, where he was initially an officer on watch in use on various torpedo boats . From November 1912 to May 1914, Oberleutnant zur See Lindau (since November 10, 1908) was temporarily in command of the torpedo boat SMS S 142 . In June 1914 he was transferred to the II. Torpedo Boat Flotilla, of which he was to belong until mid-June 1915 after the outbreak of the First World War . Lindau was passed on December 31, 1939, but one day later it was made available to the Navy again and assigned to the Hamburg Prize Court as deputy Reich Commissioner. On May 26, 1940 he was Navy Commander in Northern France and from February 20, 1941 he was Navy Commander in Western France. On March 1, 1942, he was promoted to Admiral zV; Lindau was placed at the disposal of the commanding admiral of the North Sea naval station from August 8 to 31, 1942 , after which he was released from active service and retired.
