Eugen Rosshirt

Johann Eugen Rosshirt (born November 11, 1795 in Oberscheinfeld , † July 13, 1872 in Erlangen ) was a German gynecologist and obstetrician .

Life

Rosshirt studied medicine at the University of Würzburg , where he co-founded the Corps Bavaria Würzburg . After completing his studies, he worked in midwifery training and as a prosector at the surgeon school in Bamberg . In 1833 he succeeded the surgeon Michael Jäger as a full professor as director of the obstetrical clinic at the University of Erlangen . He held this position until 1868, when he was succeeded by Karl Schroeder (1838–1887).

Through lectures and the implementation of a new clinic, Rosshirt in Erlangen campaigned for the establishment of gynecology as an independent subject, his successor Karl Schroeder continued these efforts with the first clinic places exclusively for gynecological cases.

In 1867 he became an honorary citizen of the city of Erlangen.
