Eugen Theodor Drobisch (born June 11, 1839 in Augsburg , † January 30, 1901 in Osnabrück ) was a German composer and conductor.

Life

Drobisch came from Bavaria and grew up in the city of Augsburg, where his father Karl Ludwig Drobisch (* December 24, 1803, † August 20, 1854) worked as a composer. He dealt intensively with the mathematical determination of the pitch relationships and published numerous works on this problem. As a result, he had a great influence on contemporary music. He introduced his son Eugen Theodor to this problem at an early age and aroused his interest in music and composing.

After his school and music training, Eugen Theodor worked as a freelance composer and conductor in Landau, Minden and Rotterdam, among others .

His most important piece was the opera Treuhold and his Sang . This was first performed in the court theater in Meiningen in 1862 .

Eugen Theodor Drobisch is not to be confused with the actor and writer Gustav Theodor Drobisch , who was working in the Kingdom of Saxony around the same time and also wrote libretti . In contrast to these, his nickname was Eugen .
