Eugenio Arenaza , also known by the nickname El Mono , is a former Peruvian soccer player in the position of goalkeeper .
Life
His debut in the Peruvian Primera División was Arenaza in 1941 in the ranks of the Club Telmo Carbajo , which was last at the end of the season, but was able to avoid relegation by expanding the league from eight to ten teams.
Arenaza moved after a year to Sporting Tabaco , with whom he finished seventh in the game year 1942, while his old club, which could only achieve two points less, ended the season in ninth place and this time had to accept relegation.
The performances shown at Sporting Tabaco convinced city rivals Alianza Lima , who signed Arenaza before the start of the 1943 game year.
The Mexican professional league , introduced in 1943, attracted players from South America from the start , who were usually better paid in the land of the Aztecs than in their home countries. At the beginning of the 1945/46 season , the ADO secured the services of Arenaza, who already played in the following 1946/47 season for Club León and won several titles with this in the next four seasons.
After León had secured the services of the Mexican national goalkeeper Antonio Carbajal in 1950 , Arenaza would have been relegated to the bench. Therefore, he accepted the offer of the Club América , to which he belonged in the 1950/51 season.
In the following seasons Arenaza was still under contract with Oro , Marte and Deportivo Toluca before he let his active career end in the 1957/58 season at CD Cuautla .
