At the capital city club he quickly became a regular player in defense with the left side of defense as the main position and won the club's first international title in 2011 with the Copa Sudamericana . In addition, his team won the semi-annual championship three times in a row in 2011 (Apertura and Clausura) and 2012 (Apertura) and won the cup the following year .
In the summer of 2013, FC Santos from the south of Brazil showed interest in Mena and he moved to the neighboring country on loan before he was signed in 2014 after he had established himself as a regular player. After two seasons, the player then moved to the Cruzeiro EC from Belo Horizonte .
National team
Eugenio Mena won the 2009 Toulon tournament with the country's junior selection . He was discovered for the Chilean national football team immediately after the Santiago Wanderers rose to the Primera División . On September 7, 2010, he made his first appearance in the national shirt as a substitute against Ukraine . But it was not until 2012 that he was regularly used in the Chilean team and was a regular player in qualifying for the 2014 World Cup , in which he played 10 times, benefiting from his versatility in various defensive positions.
