The motor ferry Euregia is a car ferry on Lake Constance . It is used together with the German Friedrichshafen and the Swiss Romanshorn in the liner service between Friedrichshafen and Romanshorn . The ship is also being chartered as an event ship .

history

The Euregia , built by the Bodan shipyard in Kressbronn on Lake Constance in 1996 and commissioned in July 1996, is operated jointly by Bodensee-Schiffsbetriebe GmbH (BSB) and SBS Schifffahrt AG . Since enrolling in Switzerland brought considerable savings when buying the ferry, it travels with Swiss papers, but under the flag of the relevant ship's crew.

The design was done by Alexander Neumeister , the name of the ship was found through a competition and is intended to symbolize the European rapprochement.

In 2009, Euregia carried more than 586,000 people, 56,200 bicycles, 63,300 cars and 8,200 trucks.

Technical specifications

The Euregia is diesel-electric powered. It has four MTU diesel engines with a total of 2280 hp, which are directly coupled to generators. The two Voith-Schneider drives at both ends of the ferry are driven by connected electric motors. The ship has a capacity of 700 passengers and a payload of 300 tons. It is 60 meters long and 13 meters wide.

The Euregia is the only Lake Constance ferry that is also allowed to transport dangerous goods .

Trivia

On June 13th, 2009 the Hamburg hip-hop group Deichkind gave a sponsored free concert in front of almost 700 people on the ship under the title “Remmidemmi on Lake Constance”.

On March 31, 2015, the Euregia was unable to maneuver on Lake Constance for several hours during a severe storm because one of the two electric drives had failed. There was no danger to the passengers, but the ferry could only dock in Romanshorn after three hours.
