Ivan Georgov

Iwan Andreew Georgow (common transliteration: Ivan Georgov, Bulgarian Иван Андреев Георгов ; born January 7, 1862 in Veles , Bulgaria ; † August 13, 1936 Sofia , Bulgaria) was a Bulgarian philosopher , scientist, member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and co-founder and first chairman of the Macedonian Scientific Institute and long-time lecturer at St. Kliment Ohridski University in Sofia . Ivan Georgov is considered to be the founder of modern Bulgarian philosophy. The journalist and politician Ilija Georgow was his brother.

Life

Ilija Georgow was born in 1860 in the Macedonian city ​​of Veles in the family of Andrei Georgow . He went to school first, but was sent to Vienna by his parents in 1875, where he graduated from the community school in 1881 and the teacher training institute in 1883 . He was then at the University in Jena for the study of higher education approved.

After completing his university education, he and his family, like many other Macedonian Bulgarians , moved to Bulgaria , which had been liberated from the Ottoman Empire . In 1888 he became a lecturer in philosophy and ethics at the newly founded Sofia University and deputy head of the Ministry of Popular Education.
