The Friedrichshafen motor ferry is a car ferry on the Friedrichshafen – Romanshorn ferry line on Lake Constance . The ship was put into service as Rorschach by the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) in 1966 and from 1983 chartered to the Deutsche Bundesbahn , which renamed the ferry in Friedrichshafen .
history
The Rorschach was the second motorized ferry of the SBB after the Romanshorn and was commissioned in 1965 from the Bodan shipyard in Kressbronn on Lake Constance . Until the 1970s, it was used for both rail and car traffic.
In 1983, the ferry was first chartered to the German Federal Railroad as a replacement for the decommissioned Schussen , which renamed it Friedrichshafen on March 22, 1983 and relocated to Friedrichshafen on April 1, 1983.
The ferry was converted into a pure car ferry. With the privatization of Deutsche Bahn in 1994, Friedrichshafen became part of the Lake Constance shipping company . She is the largest ship in the BSB.
In the winter of 2000/2001, the ship was extensively renovated at the shipyards in Fußach and Romanshorn , after the Euregia - in addition to the Romanshorn - was able to use a third ferry to maintain the schedule. Another renovation was carried out in spring 2006. The ferry was provided with a side boarding deck directly on the car deck, which served the increasing use as a passenger scheduled ship and event ship.
technical changes
As a result of the conversion, the displacement increased from 343 t to 420.80 t.
