The European Journal for Minority Issues (EJM) is an interdisciplinary specialist journal published by Berlin-based Wissenschafts-Verlag , which discusses issues relating to the preservation and development of the linguistic-cultural existence and identity of minorities every quarter.

history

In 2008 the peer-reviewed European Journal for Minority Issues was founded by Christoph Pan, Beate Sibylle Pfeil and Franz Matscher at Springer (Vienna, New York) and was published by Verlag Österreich from 2013 to 2015. The EJM has been published by Berliner Wissenschafts-Verlag since 2016 .

Goal setting

Around one seventh of the European population belongs to the 340 minorities with around one third of the 90 European languages. The disintegration processes of Yugoslavia clearly demonstrated that the protection of these minorities is one of the questions that can decide between war and peace. Since then, minority issues have been back on the agenda of the international community. The aim of the EJM is to contribute to inner peace and cultural diversity in Europe as well as to political decision-making at European, state, regional and local level that does not predominate a priori, but appropriately includes ethnic group issues.

carrier

The sponsor is the South Tyrolean Ethnic Groups Institute in Bolzano, a research facility founded in 1960. The aim of the SVI is to investigate the potential and problems of the German-speaking and Ladin ethnic groups in South Tyrol and to develop practical proposals for funding and solutions. Particular attention is paid to the fundamental questions of the European ethnic groups.
