Hans Goebl (born October 2, 1943 in Vienna ) is an Austrian Romance studies and linguist .

Life

Goebl studied Romance Studies, Ancient Philology, Pedagogy, Psychology and Philosophy at the University of Vienna from 1962 to 1967 , received his doctorate in 1970 and completed his habilitation in 1980 at the University of Regensburg (Bavaria). Since 1982 professor for Romance philology (linguistics) at the University of Salzburg (Austria). For many years he was head of the dialectometry research laboratory and at times also of the Romance Variation Linguistics group at the University of Salzburg. He retired from the University of Salzburg in 2012. In 2009 he received the Order of Merit of the State of South Tyrol and in 2013 the Wilhelm Hartel Prize of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

Goebl is married and has two sons.
