Europe Plus (Poland)

Europa Plus (also called Europa + in its own spelling ) was a non-partisan political initiative in Poland . It was founded in 2013 by the former Polish President Aleksander Kwaśniewski , the MEP Marek Siwiec (former members of the SLD ) and the Sejm MP Janusz Palikot (chairman of the TR ) as well as other publicly active persons. Their seat was in Poznan .

The aim of the initiative, which was intended primarily to appeal to voters from the political parties SLD , UP (both social democratic ), TR , Demokraci , SD (all social liberal ) and PO ( liberal-conservative ) as well as Zieloni (Polish Greens ), was to increase the inclusion of pro-European programs in Polish politics in the shadow of the European financial crisis .

In the long term, the initiative should gain a foothold as a political party and represent an alternative to the previously established, but comparatively weak, center-left parties. A separate electoral list was drawn up in alliance with the TR for the 2014 European elections . The initiative was supported by the former Polish Prime Minister and incumbent Senator Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz . The Sejm MP and former Minister of the Interior, Ryszard Kalisz , who was also involved in the initiative, was excluded from the SLD in April 2013 for precisely this reason and for participating in the compilation of a competing electoral list .

However, when it entered the European Parliament , the initiative failed because of the Polish threshold. It had won just 3.57% of the vote, although it had been traded significantly higher in forecasts. In 2014 it was finally dissolved again.
