Europipe (pipeline)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The natural gas - pipeline Europipe I in the North Sea connecting the Norwegian Draupner- platform with the German mainland at Dornum in East Friesland . The 620-kilometer Europipe I, which went into operation in 1995, complements two older gas pipelines, one of which (Norpipe ) ends in Emden (East Frisia).

Another gas pipeline ( Europipe II ) has been transporting natural gas from Norway (Kårstø in Tysvær 59 ° 16 ′ 14 ″ N, 5 ° 29 ′ 37 ″ E , north of Stavanger ) to Germany since October 1, 1999 . It is approximately 660 kilometers long and was laid parallel to Europipe I in the German coastal area.

The lines come ashore on the Lower Saxony coast between Dornum and Nesse. There, the pressure is released from around 160 bar to 80 bar in a “gas receiving system”. For this purpose, the gas has to be heated because of the Joule-Thomson effect , for which a boiler house was built. 53 ° 39 ′ 23 "N, 7 ° 24 ′ 14" E

A special feature is the approximately two-kilometer-long twin tunnel near Dornumersiel in the area of the so-called dry tidal flats . This tunnel was excavated underground in this sensitive ecosystem.

Dornum / nephew it goes further 49 km with underground lines (42 inches) by Emden-Knock 53 ° 21 '40 "N, 7 ° 0' 31" O . There, the amount of gas is measured and delivered to the customer networks. The quality of the gas is continuously verified with gas chromatographs . The transport capacity is given as 60 million standard cubic meters per day. The nominal outlet pressure is 49 bar.

Another line goes from Dornum as the NETRA pipeline to Salzwedel .

The operators of the Europipe lines are the Norwegian companies Gassco and Equinor ( Statoil until 2018 ). The supply contracts were drawn up for around 30 years. Customers pay for an “ordered” amount, even if they are unable to purchase it for reasons for which the supplier (Statoil) is not responsible. The price itself results from a formula that depends on the oil price .

The Europipe supplies 19 million households in Germany and other Western European countries with natural gas.
