Eusebio Guilarte Vera
Eusebio Guilarte Vera (born October 15, 1805 in La Paz , † June 11, 1849 in Cobija ) was a Bolivian politician and, as the successor to José Ballivián, President of Bolivia .
Life
Eusebio Guilarte Vera initially made a career in the military. As an adjutant to José Ballivián , he was there in the victory over the Peruvian general Agustín Gamarra at the Battle of Ingavi . As a reward for his work in preventing an invasion of Bolivia, he was appointed ambassador of his country to Brazil by the president. After his return he tried to prevent an overthrow together with the president. However, this failed due to the refusal of the military, which supported Manuel Isidoro Belzu . President Ballivián fled to Peru and gave Eusebio Guilarte Vera the presidency. He tried to come to an understanding with the rebels, but was deposed after only two weeks. Eusebio Guilarte Vera was therefore formally President of Bolivia from December 23, 1847 to January 2, 1848. He died two years later of complications from an illness.
