Eva Kraus (art historian)

Eva-Christina Kraus (* 1971 in Munich ) is a German art historian and museum director. Since 2020 she has been the director of the Art and Exhibition Hall of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bonn.

life and work

After the bilingual Abitur in 1990 at the Käthe-Kollwitz-Gymnasium in Munich, Kraus studied from 1990 to 1995 at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and completed his Magistra artium in 1995 .

She then did an internship at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York. In 1999 she returned to Vienna and built the museum of the Austrian Friedrich and Lillian Kiesler Private Foundation . In 2007 she founded Steinle Contemporary, a gallery in Munich, which she managed until 2012. With a dissertation on the exhibition practice of the Surrealists, she was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. In 2011 she was visiting professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg . From 2012 to 2014 she was a freelance curator and about 2013 directed the annual project “A Space Called Public - Hopefully public” with interventions of art in public space , which Elmgreen and Dragset had designed for the city of Munich, as well as an exhibition in Espace Louis Vuitton , Tokyo .

In July 2014, Kraus was appointed by the Bavarian Minister of Culture Ludwig Spaenle - as successor to Angelika Nollert - as the new director of the New Museum in Nuremberg . Kraus has been the Artistic and Exhibition Hall of the Federal Republic of Germany since August 1, 2020 .
