Evan Mervyn Davies, Baron Davies of Abersoch , CBE (born November 21, 1952 ) is a British politician and bank manager.

Career

Davies studied Management Development at Harvard Business School and is a member of the Institute of Bankers .

From 2001 to 2006 he was CEO and from 2006 to 2009 Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Standard Chartered Bank .

He is vice chairman and partner at US private equity investor Corsair Capital and board member at asset management company PineBridge. He is Senior Independent Director at Diageo and Chairman of the Board of Directors at investment bank Moelis and Co.

Offices and Awards

Davies is chairman of the council at Bangor University . He is also Trustee of the Royal Academy of Arts and Justice of the Peace in Hong Kong.

Davies was inducted into the Order of the British Empire as Commander in June 2002 for his work in finance . On February 2, 2009, he was named Baron Davies of Abersoch , of Abersoch in the County of Gwynedd , a Life Peer and thereby received a seat in the House of Lords . Although even non-party ( non-affiliated ), he was awarded in February 2009 under the Labor - Brown Ministry the office of Secretary of State ( Minister of State ). As such, he was responsible for UK Trade and Investment (the business development institute of the British government), the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office until the change of government in May 2010 .

Davies is married and has two children. He is fluent in Welsh .
