The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Climbach , a district in Allendorf (Lumda) in the district of Gießen ( Hessen ), is a half-timbered church from 1783. It was donated in memory of Captain Karl von Nordeck zur Rabenau , who died in America . The Hessian cultural monument has been largely closed since 1983.

history

In the late Middle Ages, Climbach was subordinate to the Lords of Nordeck zur Rabenau and, as a church branch of the parish of Londorf, was assigned to the Archdeaconate of St. Stephan in the Archdiocese of Mainz . With the introduction of the Reformation (1528 in the Lumdatal ) the place changed to the Evangelical Lutheran creed.

According to a hall book from 1741, the place had no church until then. At the suggestion of the Londorfer parish clerk Christoph Theodor Strack, who “no longer wanted to act as the field preacher”, the congregation decided “to build a certain chapel or Todtenkirche” so that the schoolmaster could hold church services in Climbach instead of Londorf in bad weather and in winter to be able to. When captain Karl von Nordeck zur Rabenau died in America, his father donated GLV von Nordeck zur Rabenau 200 guilders for the construction of the Climbach church, which formed the basis for the financing. It was carried out by foreman Ludwig Müller in 1783 and was originally plastered.

In 1896 the west wall was changed. A bell from the year 1783 was replaced by a Rincker bell in 1896 , and a second bell from the same company was purchased in 1920, which was replaced by another bronze Rincker bell in 1953.

In 1964, the ants-eaten spruce wood of the framework was replaced in the northeast area. In the course of an external renovation from 1981 to 1983, the entire framework that had been made of oak in the other places was exposed. In consultation with the monument office, the outer walls were then slated in order to better insulate the church and protect it from the weather. The interior was renovated from 1982 to 1984, during which the wall and ceiling paintings were exposed.

architecture

The hall church in north-south orientation is built in the center of the village. She has a northern chancel, which is formed by the three sides of a hexagon, and is powered by a hipped gable roof completed. Except for the east side, on which the half-timbering is exposed, and the portal area, the outer walls are now completely slated. The framework is divided into several zones by means of a broken stone base. The corner posts extend from the plinth to the eaves. Five stands on the long sides rest on the base sill and two more stands halfway up on bars. The lower compartments are reinforced by foot struts at the corners.

The interior is illuminated on the long sides through high arched windows that were previously lead-glazed. The south portal has a flat arched arch and is flanked by two pilasters, which are decorated with diamonds and floral ornaments. The door arch bears the inscription: “GREAT AND SIGNIFICANT GOD FOR THE GLORY AND GLORY OF YOUR MOST HOLY ACCEPTANCE, THIS / CHURCH IS UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF MR. MAIN MAN CARL VON / NORDECKEN ZUR RABENAU AND HIESIG AND LITTLE LITTLE GIMMIGEMEINFORDE MÜLZORDE WORDEN / 1783 ".

The six-sided roof turret on the south side is slated and has a curly Welsche hood , which is crowned by a cross and a weathercock. The original tower knob was not renewed during the roof renovation.

The interior is almost completely preserved from the time the church was built. The flat-roofed interior has coffered galleries on the south and west sides, which rest on square wooden posts. The pulpit and altar stand on the central axis. The wooden polygonal pulpit in blue and red version is attached to the north side on a wooden post with curved Bügen and the connected barred Pew accessible. The wooden octagonal baptismal font rests on a stand with four curved arches. The church stalls with curved cheeks leave a central aisle free.

The block altar, which has been raised by one step, is closed off by an altar panel sloping at the bottom. Paintings from 1810 were uncovered in the altar area in the 1980s, showing an angel trumpeting on the ceiling and two larger and two smaller figures on the walls. Luther with the swan and Moses with the tablets of the law are depicted on the right, two female figures on the left whose interpretation is not certain. A circumferential painted band below the ceiling is decorated with geometric ornaments.
